JISC Representation on W3C

The W3 Consortium exists to develop common standards for the evolution of
the World Wide Web (WWW). It is a global industry consortium run jointly
by the Laboratory for Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology and INRIA in France.
JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) have joined W3C, to ensure that
the UK academic community is adequately informed as the WWW evolves and
that the community has a voice to influence WWW development.
To this end they have appointed a representative, Chris Lilley of the University
of Manchester. This has been funded through the Advisory Group on Computer
Graphics (AGOCG). He will attend W3C meetings and WWW conferences as a representative
of the community, and report back on developments.
There is a Mailbase list for discussion and announcements <agocg-w3c>
and a WWW site containing reports and pointers to further information http://info.mcc.ac.uk:8080/agocg/
