The 1997 AGOCG VR Survey asked respondents to list software and hardware products currently in use and plans for future use. 3 of the most commonly cited were Division dVS/dVISE, Sense8, and Superscape. Over the first 3 months of 1998 as AGOCG-VR support officer I will undertake evaluations of these items which will be made available to the Higher Education Community. The aim of these evaluations will be to provide potential users with an overview of the products: their capabilities /limitations; functionality; ease of use; cost; compatibility (with other products), etc.
To this end a template evaluation framework has been drafted and is available on http://sgi6.lut.ac.uk/~vrsupp/eval_frmwk.html
I would greatly appreciate list members' comments on the framework (constructive criticism is welcomed)and feedback on the proposed list of products chosen for evaluation. Please send comments to me, though posting to the list is preferable, to hopefully stimulate discussion.
