Graphics Co-ordinator's Report

AGOCG Funding

The JISC Technology Applications Sub-Committee (TASC) have confirmed that there will be no funding for AGOCG from the end of July. AGOCG are discussing with TASC the areas of work which should be continued under their development programme as well as the need to continue aspects of the working practices of AGOCG, particularly the technology watch role and the ability to commission small scale projects quickly to respond to new technologies.

We are looking at the dissemination requirements for our current projects and are likely to put in place ongoing dissemination activities beyond August.

Any thoughts you might have on areas where ongoing activity should be recommended to TASC should be channelled through me.

Computing and Audio Visual Services

One of the areas of work for this year has been the convergence of computing and AV services. This is proving to be a lively and interesting area of work. As reported in the last newsletter, we have a series of case studies underway which are reporting on various practices in nine institutions. These will be brought together with additional editorial by Sue Cunningham who will draw out some general messages. Also of interest are 2 JTAP projects being run at UMIST and at the University of Edinburgh on the current and future technologies, see http://www.jtap.ac.uk/.

As a result of this work we are involved in the Computer Suppliers Federation's Presentations Roadshow being held in May at:

19 May - Manchester Conference Centre, Manchester
20 May - Hilton National Hotel, Coventry
21 May - Excelsior Hotel, Heathrow
22 May - Marriott Hotel, Bristol

To reserve a delegate place call the CSF Roadshow Hotline on 01905 727616. We hope to report on the various JISC activities in this area over some sandwiches at a lunchtime briefing.

Sue Cunningham has put together some pages on this topic including links to sites with AV services for specialised input and output devices which can be used by other sites, see: http://www.agocg.ac.uk/AV/av.html
