THE TOOLS FOR THE JOB: TEACHING WITH TECHNOLOGY

Managing, Delivering and Supporting Lecture Room Services for the Multimedia Age
INTRODUCTION
In 1994, as part of its 2-campus Estates strategy, LMU established a plan to build a Learning
Centre (Integrated Library, computing, and audio visual and media production services), and five
lecture theatres within a listed building. At that time, the Beckett Park Campus had no lecture
theatres or large teaching spaces, yet within two years was planned to be the major site of the
University in terms of numbers of students.
The creation of the lecture theatres faced a particular problem: providing appropriate
accommodation and modern technology whilst retaining the features of the original Edwardian
architecture.
