Importing Data

You can import data into a newly created Deltagraph Data page.

Import Data File Formats Supported

Deltagraph supports the following import data file formats:-

• Data Interchange Format (.DIF)
• dBase (III, III+, IV) Database Format (.DBF)
• Delimited Text ASCII file - allows you to enter a custom string of separators for your imported data, such as horizontal tab, comma, space, and hard space. You can also enter up to 3 ASCII codes to create your own delimited text format. Most applications create tab-delimited text files. To determine what format a file contains, use a word-processing program to open the data file, then look to see how each field is separated.
• Microsoft Excel 4.0 or earlier (.XLS)
• Lotus 1-2-3 (.WKS, .WK1, .WK3)
• Quattro (.WKQ)
• SYLK - Symbolic Link file format (.SLK)

The Import Data Process

To import data proceed as follows:-

1. Open a new or existing Data page.
2. Click in the cell where you want your imported data to begin. (Note that this applies only if you have specified in Preferences to import to the selected cell).
3. Select Import from the File menu and the following Import Data dialog box appears:-

Now continue as follows:-

4. Select (in the usual Windows 95 way) the file that you wish to import. (Only the files compatible with the selected format (i.e. as defined in the Files of type box) are displayed).

5. Click on the Open button.

By default, if the first row or column of the imported data contains any text, the data arrives beginning in the Label row and column. If the first column of the imported data is numerical, the data arrives beginning in column A, row 1.

(After importing data, you might need to use the Cut and Paste commands in the Edit menu to rearrange column and row labels).
