Readers may be interested to look at a series of articles in IEEE Computer
Graphics and Applications, March 1996, pp 60-75, under the general theme
of "Computer Graphics and Visualization in the Global Information Infrastructure".
There is an opening statement from Al Gore, Vice-President of the USA which
includes the words:-
"I would like to challenge you to take a critical next step. We need
to move beyond Web browsers into the world of collaborative work. The information
needs of the government, industry, and the public are becoming more complex
and demanding new ways to link people across organizational, geographic
and educational boundaries".
